Going away?

For those of you taking your dogs with you do make sure you’re fully prepared.

If you’ve booked a dog-friendly hotel or holiday home, double-check their policy before you set off. Some have restrictions such as the maximum number of dogs per room/visit and caveats like dogs must not be left alone in the accommodation. Check costings too, including any small print which may reveal hidden extras such as housekeeping fees.

It’s also important to take familiar items with you so your dog won’t feel homesick. Like a favourite toy or blanket and even their own dog bowls. You should also make sure they are up-to-date with their vaccinations and have a valid pet passport if travelling outside the UK.

Staying behind?

If your dog is staying behind while you’re away, then dog boarding or sitting is often the answer. At Bruce’s we offer our regular dogs our sleepover service. This means your dog will spend all day at day care and then live like one of the family with one of their carers in their home overnight and at weekends.

If you decide to use a kennel or dog sitting company do check them out first, and be sure to visit the facilities to see for yourself. Word of mouth recommendations from friends and family are often best. Also as above, prepare in advance making sure you are aware of their policies and caveats.

It’s also important to make sure your dog is fully vaccinated as kennel cough and other doggy ailments can be picked up.
