How often does my labrador need a bath?

How often does my labrador need a bath?

Labradors need bathing the same as any other breed and you’ll be surprised how much coat will shed from them.

Although dog grooming is not required in order to stop matting or tangles on a Labrador, it is good for their skin and to keep them smelling fresh!

If your Labrador loves diving in and out of muddy puddles, or rolling around in dirt then you may find yourselves washing them more often.

How often does my cocker spaniel need their nails trimmed?

Most dogs will need their nails trimmed every few weeks but they could need it more or less depending on their lifestyle and how active they are.

Starting from a young age and clipping them regularly not only gets them used to their paws being handled but it also ensures they are kept to a reasonable and comfortable length.

Can you use human shampoo on my puppy?

A dog’s fur coat requires a different Ph level than human hair!

Doggy shampoos are especially created with non harmful chemicals and ingredients that are soft on the skin and leave them smelling furtastic.

How long does dog grooming take?

How long does dog grooming take?

You should expect to leave your dog at the groomers from anywhere between approximately 1-2 and a half hours depending on the treatment your dog is having that day!

However, this can of course still vary and be shorter or longer depending on factors such as the breed of your dog, your dog’s behaviour and the condition of their furry coat.

Do you have any tips for grooming a Cockapoo or Poodle cross?

Do you have any tips for grooming a Cockapoo or Poodle cross?

Cockapoos and any poodle mixed breeds need regular dog grooming to maintain their curly fur. Here are our top tips:

  • Doodle breeds can become easily matted and daily brushing can help avoid this. Remember to focus on areas such as the belly, armpits, around the feet and under the ears!
  • If daily brushing is something you need a helping hand with it’s an idea to book your doodle in for a bath in between their full groom to ensure their coat is kept clean and knot free.
  • Use a wet cloth to keep the eyes clean and prevent tear stains

How often should I brush my Cockapoo?

How often should I brush my Cockapoo?

Similarly to grooming, Cockapoos and any Poodle mixed breeds need regular brushing.

The majority of doodles will need a good daily good followed by a comb out. The fur can be hard to maintain and every doodle has a different coat unique to them, so some may need grooming more than others. This can be done in the comfort of your own home. Whether that’s in the favourite spot such as their bed or curled up on your lap in the evening.

The key is to make it a positive experience.

If you’re in struggling with brushing at home, the Bruce’s groomers are here to help.

What is hand stripping?

What is hand stripping?

Hand stripping is where a dog groomer removes the dead hair from a dog’s coat by hand instead of using clippers. This unique dog grooming process is usually done just a couple of times a year once your dog’s coat has grown and the dead hair is ready to pull out.

Dogs with wiry fur coats, which includes most terrier dog breeds would be hand stripped. Some other dog breeds that would need to be hand stripped are:

  • Wire-haired Pointers
  • Schnauzers
  • Wire-haired Dachshunds
  • Irish Wolf Hounds

How often should a dog be groomed?

All dogs benefit from being groomed regularly but the intervals between each session will depend on the breed of dog/their coat type and how well they can be maintained at home.

We would recommend most long haired dog breeds visit to us at the dog grooming salon every 6-8 weeks for a full groom to keep them feeling comfortable and for their coats to be kept in good condition.

If you like your dog to always be smelling and feeling fresh, some owners bring their dog in to see us at the grooming salon for a bath, brush and blow-dry every few weeks between their full groom.
