Bruce’s Doggy Day Care customer Julie C and her four-legged friend recommended Pinnock’s Coffee House in the village of Ripley near Guildford, so we went along to see for ourselves.

After a gentle dog walk around the village green which included welcome shady woodland, we popped to Pinnock’s on the High Street for some light refreshment.

The old building itself is charming and oozes character with wonky floors and beams. Dogs are allowed upstairs, where there is plenty of space and inviting comfy sofas with a real home from home feel. Take care on the steep wooden stairs, however. They were too much for my long-legged greyhound, so we sat outside in the terrace garden area instead which was just as inviting on a summer’s day.

Friendly staff gave us a warm welcome, including a hand-delivered bowl of fresh water, and took great pride in telling us about the range of organic coffees and homemade cakes available. Try the ‘blondie’ – a lighter white chocolate version of the traditional brownie: delicious!

Ripley High Street has several cafés and eateries so there is quite a bit of competition. Despite this, Pinnock’s was one of the busiest yet not uncomfortably packed; a good balance.

So, if you’re looking for a few hours out in the Surrey countryside with your canine chum followed by tasty food and drink, give Pinnock’s a try.

And as winner of the Tea/Coffee Shop of the Year in the Surrey Life Food Awards 2014, the judges obviously thought the same too!
