Building a den

Building a den

  1. Use a clothes horse to create the structure of your den, alternatively you can use a crate.
  2. Cover the den in thick blankets and towels to help block out sounds.
  3. Place your dog’s usual bed inside, along with some of their favourite toys.
  4. Make the space as appealing as possible, using yummy treats.
  5. Make sure your dog has access to water so they can avoid leaving their hideaway.

Music

Music

The loud sudden noises are usually the main cause of stress and anxiety. Ensure there is a constant stream of calming music as this will help to block out loud noises.

Calming classical music can be a great choice.

You can find lots of playlists on YouTube and Spotify, specifically made for dogs to help them relax.

Keep walks short

Keep walks short

Sudden flashes and bangs can be distressing. It’s best to avoid going outside in the evening unless necessary.

Plenty of exercise during the daytime will help your dogs feel less anxious later on.

Also always ensure your dog’s tag is secure and their microchip details are up to date.

Consult your vet

If your dog shows signs of extreme stress such as shaking and drooling, consult your vet who may want to  prescribe medication.
