A dog’s life: luxury in later years

From around 10 years onwards dogs enter their winter years.

By now you will have had many happy times together, and all being well, there are still more to come. So why not use this period in their life to provide your four-legged friend with a little bit of extra luxury in their later years.

Beautiful dog beds

If their doggy bed is looking a little tired – which after 10 years is quite likely – why not invest in something fit for a canine king or queen.

There are lots of fabulous examples on the market from crushed velvet to personalised pooch, sofa sanctuary and full-scale four poster. The choice is endless!

Cosy dog coats

A doggy coat may also be needed now as they begin to feel the cold more or are less able to cope with getting wet.

One coat we see a lot of our pooches wearing is the Equafleece or PetsPyjamas has a great selection for all types of breeds, large and small, including country tweeds to match their owners!

Tasty dog treats

And for the ultimate indulgence for your much-loved pensioner, try your hand at homemade doggy treats. You’ll have as much fun making them as your dog will eating them and it’s a great personal way to show how much you care.

Here are a few ideas from Canine Cottages – from crunchy peanut butter biscuits to cranberry chews and cooling yoghurt ices. Yum!

Next time, we stay focused on the winter years and discuss health-checks, weigh-ins and gentle exercise.
